Much Quicker Results - Saturday

I got my breakfast at 1000. Ate, did WoA results and finnished said results at 2000. Right, that's out of the way, now onto today's main feature. Colin gets his hair done Firstly here is a picture of Colin before the hair straightening. Brierley and Sarah get to work on his hair, starting at the back. I've never seen hair straightened so was quite impresssed when I saw it in action. I also didn't understand why they need hair clips. Here's another action shot of the hair getting progressively straighter. Here is a picture of Brierley acting her age and Sarah, well, we all know what Sarah is like... And here is the finnished product. Within moments it looked a little like my hair. Well, tomorrow is Sunday and that means I get a lie in (like today) before Monday. The problem for Monday is I'm not sure exactly which is my timetable. So I'm turning up to a lab at 0900 and hoping it's mine. Otherwise I'll have to complain it wasn't clear enough. Note: On Wednessday I forgot to mention that Sarah had typed up a list of "Top 10 Tips for Dealing with Ladies" and gave me #3. "Never call a lady by the name of another lady, especially if she's your ex".

Random Question of the Day Do you think I'd look better with straightened hair? It's not got a lot of hair in it, but this is a picture of me. Apparently my hair needs to be longer before it can be straightened.

Fishy Friday? - Friday

I meant to get up at 0820. But for some reason I was very very tired. This meant that I got up at 1100 instead. Probably good seeing as at the time of writing it's 0046 and I've gotta get up in 9ish hours. When I did actually get up I had a bowl of Crunchy Cornflakes (mmmmm) and then set to work on writing up some very intersting WoA stuff. I spent quite some time doing that before finding out that someone below me had very loud music. Within 30 seconds my lovely sound setup solved the problem by drowning them out with the dulcet tones of DC Talk. When I found that standard music was boring, I switched to a quick game of Quake. It's not got the awsome announcer voice of UT but it was pretty good and quite entertaining. After the Quake game I got back to writing stuff. Dinner was excellent and I enjoyed it a lot (Hot Dog and Chips). After dinner I did a little more writing before going along with Lorna, Brierley and Sarah to Rees Hall. They had arranged something called 'Fishy Friday' where people from the CU would go and get chips. We managed to park a good mile or two from Rees hall and had a lovely walk in very very cold wind to get there. Steven, Justin, Andrew, Richard (known as Rio) and Charlotte were the only ones to turn up. I got a basic burger while other people got loads of stuff. We sat on the beach and I found myself getting colder and colder. I was also quite bored (no running around or anything exciting) and so when they went to the pub I got the bus home. Once back in Langstone I had a cup of tea, listened to the Ian Lee podcast, wrote some more WoA stuff and went to bed.

Random Thought for the Day Sam listens to Neighbours late at night/early in the morning. Should I feel bad for having my music on to drown it out while I go to sleep?

Alpha Course - Thursday

I got up early. Far far earlier than you'd have though possible considering I was asleep at about 0300 at the earliest. I had some breakfast while my laundry was cleaned. I then backed up my WoA database, very fast. After all that I went into Uni for the ASK thingie. There I learnt about hyphens and dashes. Next time I'm going to learn about how to spell better when the words are not phoenetic. After the ASK session I went back to halls and did a load of WoA stuff. Note: I've decided to link to WoA with every mention of it as it'll improve it's search ranking (I think). In the afternoon I went in again for the presentation thing. It was very very easy and I think I'm okay about passing B101. After the presentation I got two bottles of lemonade, 4 pints of milk and a pack of 6 cookies (normally only 5) and then got the bus back. I met Justin on the way, it's a lot nicer to have someone to talk to. After getting back I chatted to some WoA players and then got ready for going to the Alpha Course. Seeing as it started at 1930 and the last bus to leave Langstone for two hours was at 1830 I was going to Abi's house first. It is in the middle of Sommerstown. Sommerstown has a very very bad reputation and I was a little wary walking down there on my own in the dark. Still, if a bunch of 5 chavs with a stick didn't look twice at me then I can't be that bad. I had a massive mug of tea and chatted to Abi, Leanne (otherwise known as Dave...) and Andrew (not the presedent of the CU). We then walked to the cafe thing and sat down and chatted. After some very nice food we were given a small and very good talk by Matt. Then that was it, I was expecting some discussion on Christianity but nope, it ends at 2130. I stayed a little longer and chatted to some people. I'll now summ up the (very good) talk given by Matt with my amazing powers of summation. "If you have not tasted an apple you cannot say what if it is good or bad. By that logic, if you haven't tasted Christianity you can't say if it's good or bad. The Alpha Course is here to give you a taste of Christianity" I'm very impressed with it, he put the point across very very well (there was a funny story about eating smoked salmon) and put my name down for the Alpha Coruse (confirmation) without hesitation. I got the bus back to halls, chatted to people about WoA (notice a pattern to my days yet?) and blogged.

Random Thought for the Day I came to Portsmouth expecting to find people that liked WoA, even if there were only a few. So far only a single person in Portsmouth (from Uni, the guy in Gosport doesn't count) plays it and he's nothing like me. Anybody got an explanation for this?

Where did the day go - Wednessday

I was tired, very very tired and also aching. So I got up at about 1100. I did a load of WoA stuff and started work on sorting out my 'just after results' duties. I didn't finnish these duties in time before the CU hallgroup so I had to leave them on hold, sorry guys. I had dinner (roast, mmm) and was thinking of flicking food at Gareth (he was sitting at another table with his Girlfriend) but Brierley (yeah, misspelt it yesterday...) managed to distract me somehow, too tired to remember. After dinner I got a bus in and the same bus back from the union with Pete. The Hall group was very good and interesting. I brought up the subject that if God judges us by our motives, and our motives are good, does it really matter that we fall short? I brought up something similar and Lawrence provided a very good analogy that explained it very well, a pity that I am too tired to remember it. Tomorrow is a busy day, at 1100 or something I've got an ASK thingie, 1530 is a presentation and 1900 is the Alpha course. I'll also put an image of my timetable up so that you can all see when I'm meant to be working. I've decided that this semester I'll try and sit at the front, ask lots of questions and give a hard time to the lecturer. Well, try to, if they know their stuff then they'll be able to answer the questions very well. I got back from a very very late hall group, Brierley, Sarah, Lorna and myself stayed up rather late discussing quite a lot of things about the CU and then later, life in general (neighbours, eugh...) so I'm rather tired. Sorry that I haven't put the pictures of Colina's hair straightening up (it's a guy)

Random Fact of the Day I've got lots of readers from somewhere, most of them are anonymous (and I can't spell). Just so you know, I do delete innapropriate comments and also am more likely to ignore comments from people that I've no idea who they are.

Rough, tumble and ready to roll - Tuesday

I've been given some of what I consider to be rather good advice. "Don't tell people too much about your love life on a blog". Therefore at the best you're all going to have to live with massively delayed or more likely, no news. I got up at 1100 and got a bus in to see my personal tutor. Rinat wrote an excellent reference for me (Resident Assistant so I can stay in halls). Tom also said to put his name down for a second reference, so I did. Shortly after dinner I gave Brieley (I've been spelling it wrong all this time) and showed her something. Last night Gareth and I had gotten her to believe that we'd installed a special virus on her computer. This 'virus' displayed 'information' about itself at startup. Briely was not impressed and I said I'd watch her boot it up to prove that it wasn't that bad. The 'information' was of course just a spalsh screen. We hacked the boot image, there was no virus. A smiley face came up with words saying "Enjoy your computer, love from Gareth and Teifion". She seems to be happy with it. Shortly after that we went to Greg's house and watched a movie (Mr and Mrs Smith). I drank lots of fizzy drinks. After the movie Colin had his hair straightened. I got lots of pictures and will post them up some time soon. For those that downloaded a partial version of the mp3 file yesterday, re-download it. I've no idea why but sometimes people only get partial downloads. After the hair-styling we went and played frisbee in the dark. Steve, Greg, Andrew, Sam, Brieley, Sarah, Colin and myself played. The other guys are stronger than me and we were playing rough and tumble frisbee. I did my best and am knackered and aching. No doubt it'll be worse tomorrow. Note: Arakasi has now contacted us, he's not well but he's alive and will be better soon.

Random Fact of the Day I did my podcast today. More importantly I added a little comment at the end of it saying the follwoing. "Never ever ask 'are you done yet' to a Custodian. It's anoying when one person does it. It is annoying, time consuming and agrivating when several do it." I'm trying to think of a good enough list of things I can do to people like that.

Have I got a blog for you - Monday

Yes, today is a big day. I got up at 1100 or so and got the 1130 bus into the city with Gareth. We went shopping and of note was a shoplifter at Woolworths. We didn't see the guy but 3 security guards ran full out from one end of the shop to the other. We were dissapointed, we wanted to see some action! After shopping we went to our exam. I was laughed at by some people because I had two bags of shopping. I ignored them and commenced passing the exam. After the exam I went back to my room and Admined WoA a bit. Right after dinner I left with Gareth for the CU meeting. Gareth was dubious about comming, but decided he had nothing to lose and nothing better to do. The CU meeting was quite good. Lizzy had it turns out read my blog (and more importantly the comments), she was "Not very impressed". She did not however mind (or maybe just not react fast enough) the hug. Lizzy also accepted a cookie. Deneise hugged me (I'm on a roll), I was going to try the "tummy squish" suggested by Sarah but Deneise just isn't that tall. Johnathan was a very very good speaker and I got a decent recording. It's a 20MB file in mp3 format. If it's well recieved I'll start doing it every week. I do however need a new power supply. I've no idea what's wrong but it's getting worse every day, it's impressive that the battery lasted the whole time (there was singing before the talk). The file is here, enjoy. After the meeting we went to the pub. Now, yesterday Andrew reflected light into my eyes six times, I vowed to get him back because he didn't apologise. Egged on by Sarah and Lorna (who didn't think I'd do it), I dropped an ice cube down Andrew's back. That's one done. Another 'random' but funny event was Sarah trying to tell me that I can't sit on people's laps. When Lorna turned round I'm sad to say that she did not have a mouthfull of coke. If she did it'd have gone everywhere as I proved Sarah wrong. After the pub we went to Andrew, Steve, Colin and Ed's house for a cup of tea and friendly chat. Here we discussed such diverse things as what should be on today's blog to Briley's name being assumed to be that of a man. We also renamed Colin, Colina. I'd really like everyone to pull together (from the CU) on this one and see if we can make it semi-official. He did throw out a lot of insults and it's the least we could do. Today I've been doing an 'experiment'. From freshers fayre I got several bottles or whatever they're called of lynx facial scrub. For those that haven't seen the adverts (I know a lot of non-British people read this) the advert involves a guy spraying himself with lynx aftershave and girls throwing themselves at him. I decided to see if this theory was correct. I feel that I did okay today, I was talked to by ladies and I didn't recieve too many dirty looks. I feel that I would have done better if I'd noticed that it was a facial scrub BEFORE about 2300 today. It's currently almsot 0200 on the day after this blog and I'm going to bed. Night night.

Random fact of the day For some strange reason Lizzy wanted me to put her 'method' of queuing for the bar onto the blog. According to her, the bar is long for a reason, it's so you don't need to queue. Unfortunatly she was leaving so I couldn't get very much information out of her.

I can hug people - Sunday

I planned to get woken up at 0840 or something. Instead my power supply to the computer is so tempermental that a slight knock will uplug it. This meant that about an hour after going to bed it ran out of power. I woke at 0940 and got into the shower in under 30 seconds. When I need to get up, I can. I walked to Easterney with Lawrence and Sarah. Lorna had a very late night last night and couldn't come along in the morning. Apparently Sarah has created the list of 10 tips and is going to give me one tip each week, I'm looking forwards to it. The morning service was aimed at the children and very very interesting. After the service, Andrew, Lizzy, Steven, Pete and myself went to a pub for lunch. After that we walked along the southsea walk and covered a wide range of topics and activities. Pete is a new guy from America, he's quite cool and is studying criminal justice and politics for a half a semester. There was some seven or eight year old child playing on his own with a frisbee. We got into a game of it with him and it was quite good fun. He certanly enjoyed it a lot. On the way back we somehow got onto the topic of hugs. Lizzy said she missed hugging her friends as a greeting from home and I volunteered to fix the situation. She's now on the list of (4) people that say it's okay for me to hug them (relatives don't count). Steven is normally very 'nice', but on the way back he helped me in completely winding Lizzy up by asking lots of specific hugging questions. In the end Lizzy actually had to give us a demonstration so that we'd stop asking questions. It didn't help her much... The afternoon service was very good. Jonathan actually asked for responses to things and it made the service much more interactive and interesting than normal. I hope he does it more often. As a side note, Johnathan is speaking at tomorrows CU meeting and I'm going to do my best to record it and stick it on the net. That way, those that can't make it can still hear it. Who knows, if it's popular I'll make a podcast out of it (it's not like they're hard to do). I've tried moving my speaker around and it's now taking up space that my chair wheels go, BUT, the bass is much better. I'll experiment some more but so far I'm happy.

Random Fact of the Day - Thanks Lizzy Yes, today's fact is about hugging. When a man hugs a lady in greeting (we're assuming they know each other) the correct form of hugging involves the man's shoulders being above the lady's. If the lady is much shorter than the man then he should crouch down and hug under her shoulders. I also added that if they're small and light weight they could be picked up. I did not get a response to that so I'm assuming it's okay.

14 Hours, so a question - Saturday

Yes, it took over 14 hours this week. However, you don't want to hear about that so I've already come up with a question for you to puzzle over. Firstly you will need to look at some pictures. This is my subwoofer This is my desk This is my bed This is my desk/bed Now, the sub is about 4-5 meters away from that corner. It is also blocked by a big wooden desk. When I listen to music I am seated on a chair in front of my desk. When I lie in my bed, or at least when my head is under 50cm from the corner, the bass is very much amplified. I have scientifically proven this by playing a constantly bassy track and moving around my bed. The question is why does this happen, how to make it happen at my desk and also, is there enough padding beneath the speaker? Also, no news on the australian guy. We're assuming that he won't be on next week either.

Random bit of news for the day I listen to the IMG podcast. I was gutten when a massive letter I sent in wasn't answered. I re-sent it in to make sure it'd gotten in and they said that they had no reader email. They have now (after another email) said that my email arrived after they recorded the show. They would have read it this week but they ran out of time. This means that I'm expecting a mention in next week's IMG podcast :)
