It's alive! - Friday

Thursday involved not many interesting things. So I didn't bother blogging. Today wasn't a vast amount better. I went to my morning lab and went home. There I did some stuff. Then I went to a Software Systems lecture and learnt some stuff. I went home and alternated between Warcraft 3 matches with Coel and Ryo and programming Phil the Database. Phil the Database is now entering the stage where it's almost able to be used in WoA, once it's undergone testing, it should cut out a large chunk of the work of one of the Custodians (Arakasi).

A very good day - Wednesday

I got up early enough that I could have been going to my 0900 lecture. I was of course not going to the lecture, I had a Faculty Rep meeting. For those that did not read last time, I'll give a brief summary of the key things that did or did not happen in the meeting.

  • There were no snacks provided
  • It was in University House, the room was "well posh"
  • 90% of the Lecturers wore Suits
  • I was the only Student
  • There were about 20 lecturers
  • There was no free food there
Clearly this is not an acceptable way to run a meeting, you can't have a lack of free food there. I therefore went to Tesco and bought 20 doughnuts. I arrived early, sat down and messed around with some Objective C. When everybody turned up I went in and placed the doughnut bags just infront of my computer, right where they could be seen. Once enough people were in the room I announced that owing to the University failure from last time, I had provisioned doughnuts myself and expected that it be remembered. Lots of jokes were made about me getting more marks and the University paying for some food next time. Last time I had a meeting it was an SSCC meeting, this is a Faculty meeting. Last SSCC meeting I mentioned someone by name who requests I don't mention him by name this time. He scoffed on two doughnuts but wasn't so sarcastic until we left the room. Yeah, you know who you are! This time there was one other student, he didn't bring any food and didn't talk to me a vast amount, meh, his loss. After the meeting I went home and did a load of PHP stuff before going to Immanuel for some Evangelism training. It was really good, really encouraging and I feel a lot more prepared for Mission Week. I might as well say what Mission Week is as the rest of my day involved Food, PHP and Warcraft 3. Mission week is a week of heightened CU activity. Jo made some cool fliers which have the info on them. But I'll put it here too. Each day we have a "Lunchtime Lounge" where Michael Otts speaks on a subject such as "Why does God allow suffering?", "What kind of God allows violence in his name?", "What kind of Loving God would send people to hell?", "Doesn't Darwinism disprove God?", "Why doesn't God make it more apparent that He exists?". All of them are free and involve free food (guess where I'll be each lunchtime). They're all upstairs in the Union. Additionally, we also have an "Acoustic night" on Monday in the Albert Bar, South Parade Pier 8pm - featuring Glass Darkly www.glassdarkly.co.uk. A "Quiz night" - Thursday in Bar 38, GunWarf 8pm - prizes for the winners. And last of all, a "Cafe night" - Friday in Bar 38, GunWarf 8pm - where people can chill out and ask questions in a cafe/bar environment. Before you come with the aim of eating just free food, I've been told lots of times to make sure that I tell people that all evenings do involve a message of Christianity. All students are welcome and I see no reason why lecturers should not be invited either, heck, for those that like them, we might even have Custard doughnuts!

Missed a beat - Tuesday

Monday involved very little that was overly interesting. Actually, that's not quite true. The lectures were okay, CU was very good. We had Michael Otts speaking (he was at the House Party and will be at Mission Week). I also had to setup almost all the sound on my own. I got most of it working too! At the Pub I lost against Ryo and India in a game of "Carrom Men" or something like that, it's basically snooker with your fingers, the balls are replaced by disks and if you're not careful, it can really sting your nail. After the Pub I played some Warcraft 3 with Gareth, it's great fun playing with a friend and playing simply to have fun. Better is when a small group of you play online for fun and laugh about everything. I think I'll have to get Ryo over again some time. Today was quite good. The lecturing stuff was a bit naff but it has to be done. I got home and watched Ong Bak and Hero. Two chinese films. Hero is like Crouching Tiger hidden Dragon in it's methods, it also has a very good plotline. From what I can remember of CTHD, it did not. Ong Bak's storyline is not incredible but it's a very good film action wise, the stunts and fight scenes are expertly done. At Jo and Lizzie's house tonight was a Pancake evening or something. I cooked some Palmiers and went over. All but three of the Palmiers vanished and everybody had a good time (I'm noticing a link between Teifion cooking and people having a good time). I've been learning more Objective C and I like it, tomorrow is a Rep Meeting Faculty thing, I'm sure it'll be fun. Incidentally, the lady I picked up was Lorna, she didn't weigh too much. Well done to Luke, Steven and (sort of) Emma for guessing the fact that I'd meant it literally.

Dun dun Dunnnn - Sunday

I got up earlyish, walked Becca to Church (Siän was ill and Ceryn was tired, Siän's was severe enough that even I thought it best she don't go to Church). I was amazingly tired in the morning service, it was incredible, I found it almost impossible to keep my eyes open and for some of it, couldn't. As such I missed the main thrust of the message, it was however about Pentecost. After Church I went home and watched Braveheart and did some WoA stuff. I also had a go at learning a new programming language called Objective C. It's very different from anything else I've done yet operates on the same basic principles of programming languages. The evening service was the first in a series about Modern Issues and how they affect Christianity and the Christian Life Style. Tonight was about Relationships and was very good. In particular Jonathan has a very good way of proving (at least to a Christian) that Genesis is real. Jesus quotes from it, and if you believe Jesus, you'll believe Genesis. After the service I walked Becca and Lorna home, though we stopped at Lorna's and Sarah gave myself and Becca a lift home. Incidentally, today I picked up a Lady

Meeting people - Saturday

I got up fairly early, did various things and walked to Gunwharf to meet Stuart from WoA. We walked back to my house where we had some Garlic bread and spent the rest of the day talking about WoA and playing many of the mutli-player games on my computer (I'm surprised at how many I have). After he was collected by his parents I went to see Huw and his Lady, Emily. Huw cooked some Pasta Bolognese which was very nice after which we all had some pancakes. We then watched some "Black Books", a comedy about some people running a book store. I didn't think it was a good as Scrubs but it was not only funny but nice to watch in the company of friends.
